New Combat System: "Edge Combat" – Introducing dynamic close-quarters combat with weapon-switching, parries, and contextual taunts. Players can now chain together melee strikes, grapples, and cyber-enhanced throws.
AI-Driven Gangs – For the first time in a 1999 title, gangs use real-time tactics and respond to player choices. Resistance isn’t just about firepower — it’s about outthinking your enemies.
Retro Soundtrack Reimagined – A new synthwave and lo-fi hip-hop score composed by legendary 90s DJ K-Blade, with remastered tracks from the original 1997 soundtrack.

"We’ve been waiting 15 years to give fans the Chinatown experience they’ve begged for," said lead designer Jun Sato in a live-streamed announcement. "This isn’t just an update — it’s a resurrection. We rebuilt every pixel, every line of dialogue, and every pulse of the city’s heartbeat. This is 1999 reborn."
The update is available now on PlayStation 2, Sega Dreamcast, and PC via the NovaCore Vault. A limited-edition vinyl soundtrack and collectible Rook action figure are also being released in November.
