Russian scanwords are truly a unique global phenomenon. No other language features such a wealth of literary references, humorous clues, and questions reflecting current world events—all within ordinary crosswords. The Russian people cherish words deeply, preserving and valuing language as their most precious treasure.

The app offers diverse scanwords—ranging from simple to challenging, with photos, classic clues, and associative hints like “one word” or “one word, two words” in the style of Elder Fur’s wisdom. Each issue includes an English-Russian scanword and a “holey” puzzle (you’ll quickly see why it’s named that). Every page welcomes you with a member of our cheerful family. Come join the fun!

All scanwords are free for readers. This annual collection includes 52–53 issues, each with 20 scanwords. A full year’s worth takes up only about 50 MB on your phone—thanks to compact images and text-only content. We prioritize saving space on your device.

No internet connection is needed to solve puzzles once the scanwords are downloaded. New issues release every Friday. If you enable notifications, you’ll receive a weekly reminder at 12:00 local time. The app automatically downloads new issues and won’t repeat successful downloads. You can also manually download or delete individual magazines, or use Settings to download all issues at once.

Core features, including access to all scanwords, are free for readers. Advertising sponsors the experience, with one narrow banner per page and one interstitial ad before opening a scanword. Ads never interrupt your solving flow. Plus, watching rewarded videos earns you free hints.

Readers can choose to disable ads permanently, subscribe to remove ads and get unlimited hints, or purchase hint packs in bulk. All options are available in the Shop.
