"Duskbloods' Hub Keeper: A Cute Switch 2 Exclusive"

Author : Lillian May 01,2025

FromSoftware has unveiled further details about their upcoming exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's aesthetic but also introduced a unique design twist to the traditional keeper of the hub area, transforming it into something unexpectedly cute.

During the recent Switch 2 Direct, the trailer concluded with an intriguing shot of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, which has sparked curiosity among fans. This character, as it turns out, serves as the hub companion in The Duskbloods.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki elaborated on this character in an interview with Nintendo, stating, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance." He further explained the influence of the partnership with Nintendo, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership."

When pressed on what he meant by "Nintendo-esque," Miyazaki added, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)."

FromSoftware's hub keepers have traditionally been pivotal in guiding players through their challenging worlds. Iconic characters such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have been central to players' journeys, often providing essential support and power-ups.

Given The Duskbloods is a PvPvE game, the nature of the guidance offered by the winged rat remains a mystery. Miyazaki hinted at the team's experimentation with "a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players can anticipate some surprises when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
