Palworld's latest update, version 0.5.0, brings a slew of exciting new features, including crossplay functionality across all platforms. This means players on different systems can now enjoy the game together seamlessly. One of the standout additions is the Global Palbox, allowing you to store Pal data and transfer your Pals between worlds effortlessly. Additionally, the new Dimensional Pal Storage system offers ten times the capacity of the regular Palbox, making it an ideal solution for both guild members and personal use with customizable private settings.
In other updates, players can now utilize the Cosmetic Armour System to change their character's appearance without impacting their armor stats, thanks to the new Antique Dresser. A new Photo Mode has been introduced, accessible from the Pal Command Wheel, allowing you to capture stunning in-game screenshots with ease. The Drafting Table feature lets you combine lower-rarity blueprints to craft higher-rarity ones, enhancing your crafting experience. Dedicated servers are now available for Mac users, ensuring a smoother gameplay experience across more platforms.
Developer Pocketpair is also working on adding dedicated servers for the PlayStation 5 version, which will be released in the future. Since its early access launch in January 2024, Palworld has attracted an impressive 32 million players. The studio has a content roadmap planned for 2025, promising an "ending scenario" and even more new content for this hugely popular creature-catching survival game.
Launched on Steam for $30 and available on Xbox and PC through Game Pass, Palworld shattered sales and concurrent player records upon release. Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, admitted the game's launch was so successful that the developer struggled to manage the massive profits. Capitalizing on this success, Pocketpair signed a deal with Sony to create Palworld Entertainment, aimed at expanding the IP and bringing the game to the PS5.
However, looming legal issues with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who are suing Pocketpair for alleged patent infringement, add a layer of complexity. Pocketpair has responded by adjusting how players summon Pals in the game and vows to defend its position in court.
