Sony has announced a significant update for PlayStation Portal users participating in the Cloud Streaming Beta, set to enhance the user experience and functionality of the remote play system. This update, scheduled for release later today, introduces several new features and improvements that aim to make cloud streaming on the PlayStation Portal more enjoyable and efficient.
One of the key additions is the ability to sort games within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Players can now organize their games by Name, Release Date, or based on when titles were most recently added to PlayStation Plus. This sorting feature will help users navigate the catalog more easily and find their preferred games quickly.
Another exciting update is the introduction of gameplay capturing during Cloud Streaming sessions. Users will be able to access the usual create menu options to take screenshots or record video clips. According to the PlayStation blog, video clips can be recorded in up to 1920x1080 resolution and last up to three minutes, providing ample opportunity to capture and share memorable moments from your gaming sessions.
Additionally, gameplay will now pause automatically under certain conditions. If you open the PS Portal quick menu, enter rest mode using the power button, or if a system error message appears, the game will pause. However, the rest mode pause is limited to 15 seconds; if the Portal remains in rest mode longer than that, the cloud streaming session will disconnect. It's important to note that pause functionality will not be available during online multiplayer games.
Further enhancements include a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for user inactivity, and new user feedback tools. Sony has committed to continuously improving the service based on user feedback, ensuring that the Cloud Streaming Beta evolves to meet player needs.
Currently, the Cloud Streaming Beta is exclusive to PlayStation Plus Premium members, allowing them to stream select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog directly on the PS Portal. Last year's update transformed the Portal into a more standalone cloud streaming device, and it appears that Sony is dedicated to further refining and expanding this feature.
As cloud streaming becomes increasingly integral to the gaming landscape, it will be fascinating to see how Sony's Cloud Streaming Beta develops alongside the PlayStation Portal. The ability to capture numerous screenshots and video clips during streaming sessions adds a delightful layer of engagement for users, enhancing the overall experience on the PlayStation Portal.
