Sonic The Hedgehog 3 has raced past another milestone, now ranking as the second highest-grossing video game movie adaptation in North America. With Keanu Reeves joining the cast as Shadow the Hedgehog, the film has earned over $204 million domestically after its fourth weekend, pulling in $11 million across 3,582 theaters. Globally, the movie has amassed an impressive $384.8 million.

Surpassing its predecessor, Sonic 2, in the domestic box office, Sonic 3 is still significantly behind the top-earning video game adaptation, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The latter raked in an astounding $574,934,330 in North America and a staggering $1,359,146,628 worldwide—figures that set a high bar for future video game movies, though the upcoming Minecraft film and the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel might challenge these records.

Despite not reaching the top spot, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is a resounding success for Paramount, which has already greenlit Sonic 4. For context, other notable video game movie adaptations include 2022's Uncharted, which grossed $148,648,820 domestically, and the original Sonic movie, which earned $146,066,470, placing them fourth and fifth respectively in the domestic rankings.
