Toekomstige studio ghibli -projecten
terwijl de jongen en de reiger aanvankelijk werd gespeculeerd als de laatste film van Hayao Miyazaki, vanaf oktober 2023, ontwikkelt hij actief zijn volgende project voor Studio Ghibli. Producent Toshio Suzuki heeft de voortdurende creatieve achtervolging van Miyazaki bevestigd en verklaart dat hij zijn inspanningen ondersteunt, ongeacht de uitkomst. Verdere details blijven niet bekendgemaakt.
