Today's Mario Kart World Direct provided exciting new details about the game's innovative Free Roam mode, revealing its highly interactive multiplayer features and the array of activities players can engage in while exploring Mario Kart World's expansive open world.
Although we had the chance to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a thorough look at what Free Roam mode entails. This new feature sets Mario Kart World apart by allowing players to freely explore its vast, Forza Horizon-inspired world map. Unlike previous Mario Kart games, where race tracks were isolated and accessible only during races, Mario Kart World integrates them into an open world environment, enabling seamless transitions between tracks and exploration of the spaces in between during specific game modes.In Free Roam mode, when you're not competing in races, you can embark on a mini-adventure across the world. This mode is brimming with hidden collectibles such as coins and ? panels, although the benefits of collecting these items are yet to be fully disclosed. Additionally, scattered P-Switches offer engaging challenges, like gathering blue coins, adding a layer of interactivity to the exploration.
Another highlight of Free Roam mode is the ability to activate Photo Mode at any time, allowing players to capture memorable shots of their racers in various poses and angles. Importantly, Free Roam isn't just for solo adventurers. It supports multiplayer fun, where you and up to three friends can roam together on the same system via split screen, or up to eight players can join the fun through local wireless play (with two players per system).
