Black Beacon has recently made its debut on mobile devices, but we got an early sneak peek at this intriguing Mythic Sci-Fi Action RPG. We're excited to share our insights on this captivating new game.
Black Beacon stands out as an action RPG that prioritizes swift, seamless combat while introducing a dynamic character-swapping system.
Shh! This Is A Library!
The adventure begins in the enigmatic Library of Babel, a vast structure drawing inspiration from the biblical Tower of Babel and Jorge Luis Borges' short story. In this setting, the library supposedly houses every conceivable book, making it a labyrinth of endless knowledge.
You awaken in this mysterious place, surrounded by a colorful cast of characters, all equally puzzled about their arrival. It quickly becomes clear that you're destined for something great, though a looming threat—a giant spinning orb set to obliterate everyone within 24 hours—adds urgency to your journey. Welcome to your first day as a Seer!
The setting and storyline exude a charmingly wild vibe. With elements of time travel and numerous mythological references (we won't spoil too much, but keep an eye on that bird), Black Beacon throws you into a deep, intriguing narrative. If you find yourself confused, that's part of the experience—the developers seem to aim for that exact reaction.
Send Me In, Coach
Black Beacon offers an engaging ARPG dungeon crawler experience with a customizable camera viewpoint, allowing you to switch between a top-down perspective and a free camera setup. We preferred the latter, but it's ultimately up to personal taste.
As you navigate the Library's corridors, the story unfolds in short, episodic segments, each containing multiple maps. Accessing these sections requires energy, though the game generously allocates enough to keep you immersed.
Your journey involves exploring areas, solving puzzles, discovering hidden treasure chests, and battling eerie enemies—remnants of people the Library hasn't fully "digested." Combat is fast-paced and somewhat button-mashy but remains challenging and rewarding. Perfectly timed dodges grant you invincibility frames, while well-timed heavy attacks can interrupt enemy actions, saving you from having to dodge.
A unique character-swapping mechanic adds depth to battles, allowing you to switch characters mid-fight. This tag-team approach keeps your fighters fresh and the combat dynamic. Mastering the rhythm of character swaps can be satisfying, though a mistimed dodge can send you flying down the hallway, courtesy of a giant monster.
Characters And Weapon Rolls
As a gacha game, Black Beacon features a system for acquiring characters and weapons, each tailored to specific characters. Both can be leveled up using various resources, though the game simplifies much of the management through automation.
You might encounter characters via the gacha system before meeting them in the storyline, adding variety and a sense of convoluted time flow to the experience.
Overall, Black Beacon is a quirky gacha game with an ambitious, esoteric narrative and solid gameplay mechanics. We're eager to see how it evolves post-release.
If this sounds like your kind of adventure—whether you're navigating a street or the endless shelves of a giant library—consider checking out Black Beacon now on the official website, App Store, or Google Play.
