The Blood of Dawnwalker Devs Are Striving For Witcher 3 Levels of Quality

The open-world vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, developed by former CD Projekt Red (CDPR) developers at Rebel Wolves, is setting its sights on achieving a level of quality comparable to that of The Witcher 3, but in a more compact package. Dive deeper into what this eagerly awaited game has in store and hear from the game's directors about their vision.

The Blood Of Dawnwalker Aims For AAA Quality

30-40 Hour Main Campaign

In an interview with Games Radar, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the creative director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, revealed that despite being a smaller studio releasing their first game, the team is aiming for the stellar quality seen in CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3.

When questioned about where The Blood of Dawnwalker fits between indie and AAA categories, Tomaszkiewicz firmly stated, "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3."

Although Rebel Wolves is a new studio, its team is far from inexperienced. Comprising former CDPR developers who contributed to The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, the staff at Rebel Wolves bring a wealth of industry knowledge. The studio was founded by Mateusz and his brother Konrad Tomaszkiewicz to allow for greater creative freedom in game development, free from the constraints of a larger AAA studio like CDPR.

Tomaszkiewicz explained, "Definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours - we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter." He highlighted that the game aims for a 30-40 hour main campaign, which may not match the length of traditional AAA titles. "If size is your measure, then yes it's not the size of a AAA like The Witcher. But I don't know if size is the measure, to be honest, because there are AAA games like Call of Duty that aren't 100+ hours gameplay campaigns. And I don't know if anyone would call them AA, or indie."

The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to be a narrative-driven open-world dark fantasy RPG, taking place in the mystical land of Vale Sangora. Players will embody the protagonist, Coen, a young peasant who gains vampiric powers after an encounter with one of the land's most powerful vampires. His mission? To save his ailing sister from her illness, embarking on a journey filled with challenges and adversaries in a hostile environment.

While no specific release date has been announced, The Blood of Dawnwalker is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal in Summer 2025.
