Dark/Dragon-type Hydreigon stands out as one of the most formidable Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, making it a must-have for any serious trainer looking to bolster their team. To harness the full power of this pseudo-legendary, you'll first need to capture its pre-evolved forms, Deino and Zweilous. Once you have them, you can evolve Deino into the ferocious Hydreigon. However, be aware that Deino and its evolutions are exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet, requiring alternative methods to obtain them in Pokémon Violet.
Updated January 13, 2025 by Renri Seong: Dark/Dragon-type Deino evolves into the powerful pseudo-legendary Hydreigon. Introduced in Gen 5 with Pokémon Black/White, the Deino line has become a staple in mainline games, including Pokémon Scarlet/Violet. As with many new generations, Deino and its evolutions are version-exclusives, available in the wild in Pokémon Scarlet but requiring trades to obtain in Pokémon Violet. With a variety of pseudo-legendaries available in Scarlet/Violet, you might wonder if Hydreigon remains a worthwhile choice. This guide has been updated to include detailed information on Hydreigon's stats and type effectiveness.
Where to Catch Deino in Pokémon Scarlet
Deino and Zweilous Locations
In Pokémon Scarlet, you can find Deino in Alfornada Cavern, Dalizapa Passage, Glaseado Mountain, Area Zero, and North Province (Area Two). Glaseado Mountain, Area Zero, and North Province (Area Two) are easily accessible, while Alfornada Cavern and Dalizapa Passage require a bit more exploration. Deino in Dalizapa Passage and Alfornada Cavern range from levels 35 to 40.
- Alfornada Cavern: Located in the southwest corner of the Paldea map, you'll need Koraidon's high jump ability to navigate this cave.
- Dalizapa Passage: Accessible by heading east from Medali or west from Zapapico, this area lies between these two locations on the map.
Deino can also be obtained from 3-star Tera Raids, which unlock after earning 3 gym badges. These raid Deinos have different Tera Types and might possess their Hidden Ability. Additionally, Zweilous, Deino's evolved form, can be found in the wild at Dalizapa Passage, Area Zero, and Alfornada Cavern, as well as in 4-star Tera Raids. Hydreigon itself can be captured in 5/6-star Tera Raids.
How to Get Deino in Pokémon Violet
How to Trade and Transfer
Since Deino and its evolutions are exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet, you'll need to trade or transfer to get them in Pokémon Violet. For trading, a Nintendo Switch Online Membership is required to use the Union Circle. Alternatively, you can use Pokémon HOME to transfer Deino from another game to Pokémon Violet.
To transfer using HOME, you'll need the HOME app on your Switch. Deino and its evolutions can be transferred from Pokémon Sword/Shield, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon Scarlet.
- Open Pokémon HOME, select the game with Deino, and move it to your Basic Box. Save and exit.
- In HOME, open Pokémon Violet and transfer Deino from the Basic Box to a PC Box. Save and exit.
How to Evolve Deino into Zweilous and Hydreigon
What Level Does Deino Evolve?
Deino evolves into Zweilous at level 50, and Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon at level 64. To expedite the evolution process, you can use Deino/Zweilous in auto-battles against large groups of Pokémon to gain experience quickly. Additionally, feeding them Exp. Candies or Rare Candies can help, with Exp. Candy L and Exp. Candy XL being particularly effective due to Deino's high evolution levels.
Is Hydreigon a Good Pokémon?
Hydreigon Stats & Weaknesses
As a pseudo-legendary, Hydreigon is among the strongest Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. With a base stat total of 600, it boasts high Special Attack and Attack stats, complemented by good Speed, making it versatile with either a Timid (+Spd, -Attk) or Jolly (+Spd, -Sp.Attk) Nature.
HP: | 92 |
---|---|
Attack: | 105 |
Special Attack: | 125 |
Defense: | 90 |
Special Defense: | 90 |
Speed: | 98 |
Total: | 600 |
As a Dark/Dragon-type, Hydreigon has the following type effectiveness:
Super-effective against: | Dragon, Ghost, Psychic |
---|---|
Weaknesses: | Fairy (4x), Fighting, Bug, Dragon, Ice |
Resistances: | Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, Dark |
Immunities: | Ground, Psychic |
Utilizing Terastallizing can mitigate Hydreigon's significant double weakness to Fairy-type moves. Offensively, changing its Tera Type can enhance moves like Flash Cannon, giving it Same-Type Attack Bonus (STAB). Hydreigon's move set allows it to function effectively as both a physical and special attacker. Its glaring weakness to Fairy-type moves suggests equipping it with a Steel-type move like Flash Cannon, learned via TM. Other recommended moves include Nasty Plot to boost Special Attack, Dragon Pulse (or Draco Meteor), and Dark Pulse, tailoring Hydreigon to your preferred battling style.
