The long-running GTA 6 mapping project has shifted into high gear following the release of Trailer 2. Garza, one of the key figures overseeing the project, expressed to IGN that the new trailer "really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The GTA 6 Mapping Discord community, which now boasts nearly 400 members, is abuzz as they delve into the wealth of new information provided by Trailer 2.
"It's an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza told IGN. "We have so much new content to work on and we're really just getting started."
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord was born out of the massive September 2022 leaks, which some fans believe were humorously referenced at the start of Trailer 2. The project's aim is to create the most accurate GTA 6 map possible, a task that, until the release of Trailer 2, relied heavily on the leaks and December 2023's Trailer 1.
The latest iteration of the GTA 6 map, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, is now outdated. The flood of details from Trailer 2 is helping to craft a far more precise and detailed map.

In addition to plot details, characters, and 70 new screenshots, Rockstar has unveiled information and images of various explorable locations within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's rendition of Florida. Confirmed locations from this week's reveal include Vice City (the game's Miami), the tropical Leonida Keys archipelago, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a national landmark near the state's northern border.
The volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of all elements shown and to align images of fictional spaces with their real-world inspirations. Once completed, DuPz0r will release an updated map, which fans eagerly anticipate will provide the most detailed preview yet of what to expect from GTA 6 upon its May 2026 release.
Should Rockstar release more GTA 6 assets or gameplay footage before then, the volunteers will continue their efforts. Only upon the game's release will they be able to compare their fan-made map to the actual in-game world, revealing the accuracy of their work.

However, the project faces potential legal challenges from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two. In March, a modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 was forced to halt the project due to a Take-Two takedown notice. This mod was based on the GTA 6 mapping project.
When asked last year about concerns over potential action from Take-Two, Garza admitted to "some mild concern." He stated, "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
While the future of the project remains uncertain, fans can stay updated with all the latest details and fan theories emerging from GTA 6's Trailer 2.
