Navigating the expansive, synthwave-inspired world of the Overgrowth in Hyper Light Breaker can be daunting, but the Hoverboard is your key to swift and enjoyable travel. Though the game doesn't explicitly guide you on this, you can access the Hyper Light Breaker Hoverboard right from the start.
The Hoverboard serves as the game's sprint mechanic, allowing you to cover vast distances at an enhanced speed, all while your Energy depletes slowly. This guide will walk you through summoning and riding your Hoverboard, and highlight its additional utility beyond just speeding across the Overgrowth.
How To Summon A Hoverboard In Hyper Light Breaker
To activate your Hoverboard and sprint, simply hold down the Dodge input. Your character, or Breaker, will dash forward and seamlessly transition onto the Hoverboard as long as you maintain the Dodge input.
Steering the Hoverboard is straightforward: tilt the left analog stick in any direction to lean and turn. The turning radius is larger at maximum speed, making it slower to maneuver, but at lower speeds, control becomes much more responsive.
To dismount the Hoverboard, release the Dodge input. If your Energy runs out while riding, the Hoverboard will automatically deactivate.
Your Energy level is visible next to your Breaker's companion while using the Hoverboard or Glider. If your Energy dips too low, take a moment to dismount and let it recharge, preventing an abrupt stop.
Hoverboard Movement Tips & Special Uses
While you can't perform tricks or attack on the Hoverboard, Hyper Light Breaker incorporates several unique features that enhance its utility. One standout feature is its ability to float on water, allowing you to traverse rivers and inlets across the Overgrowth without interruption. The Hoverboard operates identically on both land and water.
Remember, you can't summon the Hoverboard once you're already in the water; you must be riding it as you enter to continue gliding across the surface. No matter your entry speed or height, the Hoverboard will quickly adjust to keep you afloat.
Additionally, by holding the default Jump input while on the Hoverboard, you can duck and prepare for a jump. Although double-jumping isn't possible while riding, the increased speed can help you leap across wider gaps. Ducking doesn't boost your speed or jump height, but it's perfect for timing challenging jumps with precision.
