The beloved Sony franchise, Killzone, has been on a long hiatus, but the call for its revival is growing louder. In a recent interview with VideoGamer during the PlayStation: The Concert Tour, Killzone's composer, Joris de Man, expressed his hope for the series to make a comeback. "I know that there have been petitions for it," de Man remarked. "I think it's [tricky] because, I can't speak for Guerrilla or anything... I don't know if it will ever happen. I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but I also think it kind of has to take into account the sensitivities and the shift in, I guess, what people want because it is quite bleak in some ways."
The form in which Killzone could return remains an open question. De Man suggested that a remastered collection might be more successful than launching a completely new entry. "I think [a] remastered one would be successful, I don't know if a new game would be as much," he said. "I don't know if people have moved on from it and want something. I don't know sometimes I get the sense that people want something a bit more casual, a bit more quick."
The Killzone series is known for its slower-paced, weighty gameplay, which sets it apart from faster-paced shooters like Call of Duty. Killzone 2, in particular, faced criticism for its perceived input lag, which affected the game's responsiveness on the PlayStation 3. The series is also renowned for its dark, gritty, and atmospheric visuals and tone, creating a uniquely immersive experience.
However, a recent interview with the Washington Post indicated that Sony-owned developer Guerrilla might have moved on to focus on the Horizon series. Despite this, it's been over a decade since Killzone Shadow Fall, and the idea of revisiting Killzone—or another of Sony's PlayStation shooter franchises—continues to captivate fans. With voices like Joris de Man's joining the chorus, the hope for a Killzone revival remains alive among dedicated fans.
