No DRM in KCD2: Developer Sets the Record Straight
Responding to player concerns circulating online, Warhorse Studios' PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, explicitly stated during a recent Twitch stream that KCD2 will not utilize any DRM, including Denuvo. He addressed the confusion caused by previous, inaccurate reports.
"KCD2 will have no Denuvo," Stolz-Zwilling confirmed. "It will be entirely DRM-free. We never confirmed otherwise. There were discussions, some miscommunication, and misinformation, but ultimately, there will be no DRM whatsoever."
He urged players to cease inquiries about DRM, stating, "Please, let's put this to rest. Stop asking about Denuvo in every post." He emphasized that any information about KCD2's DRM status not directly from Warhorse Studios is unreliable.
The absence of DRM is welcome news to many gamers, as DRM is frequently associated with performance issues. Denuvo, in particular, an anti-piracy measure, has faced criticism for negatively impacting gameplay, especially on PC.
Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged this negative perception, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias. He described the strong negative reaction to Denuvo as "toxic."
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set for release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game continues Henry's story in medieval Bohemia, following the devastating events that befell his village. Players who contributed at least $200 to the Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
