When pondering landmark franchises in gaming, titles like Doom, Wolfenstein, The Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy, Super Mario, and Tetris often come to mind. However, one can't overlook the monumental impact of Maxis' The Sims, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Originally conceived as a spin-off from the SimCity series, The Sims shifted the focus from city management to simulating the daily lives of individual characters, allowing players unprecedented control over their Sims' life cycles, from birth to death.

The Sims has earned its place as one of gaming's biggest franchises, pioneering a genre that remains immensely popular across its various iterations. The significance of this series is underscored by dedicated platforms like our own The Sims News website. In celebration of this milestone, EA is orchestrating major events across the franchise, including updates for The Sims 4 and The Sims FreePlay on multiple platforms.

Celebrating on Mobile

For mobile gamers, The Sims FreePlay and The Sims Mobile are at the forefront of the anniversary festivities. The Sims FreePlay's FreePlay 2000 update brings a nostalgic trip back to the turn of the millennium with a Y2K-themed content drop. Players can dive into new live events, participate in the 25 days of gifting, and experience much more. Meanwhile, The Sims Mobile is rolling out two free gifts for players during its birthday week, starting March 4th.
