To begin crafting upgraded weapons in *Atomfall*, you must first unlock the Gunsmithing skill. This crucial survival skill is learned by reading the Crafting Manual. While finding these manuals can be challenging, there's a straightforward method to acquire this one.

Visit Morris Wick at the Village Shop in Wyndham, who possesses the Crafting Manual. However, obtaining it requires more than just regular bartering; it involves some strategic blackmail. Upon entering St. Katherine’s Church, you'll learn about the recent murder of Maisie and the Vicar's desire to cover it up. Further investigation will lead you to evidence implicating Morris in the crime. This evidence can be found in the Brewery Cellar at coordinates 30.5 E, 80.5 N, located in the western part of Wyndham Village. Enter through the cellar door near the ruined building and search for the note titled "Kill the One They Call Maisie".

With this note in hand, return to Morris’ Village Shop at 33.3 E, 79.9 N. Engage in dialogue that subtly pressures Morris without threatening him directly, until you reach the "Bargaining" option. Choose this to receive the Crafting Manual in exchange for your silence about his crime.

Alternatively, though more challenging, you can find the Crafting Manual in the D Section of The Interchange.

After obtaining and reading the Crafting Manual, you'll need to spend 7 Training Stimulants to unlock the Gunsmith skill. This will grant you access to the recipes for crafting upgraded weapons. Be sure to explore B.A.R.D. structures such as Bunkers and The Interchange to gather the necessary Training Stimulants.

With the Crafting Manual and the Gunsmith skill at your disposal, you can now craft weapon upgrades. Each time you acquire a weapon, you unlock the recipe to craft its next highest tier, progressing from Rusty to Stock, and finally to Pristine. To upgrade a weapon, you'll need two of the same weapon in the previous tier, along with specific amounts of Gun Oil and Scrap, which can vary depending on the weapon.

For instance, upgrading the Falkirk Battle Rifle to Pristine requires 2 Stock Falkirk Battle Rifles, 3 Gun Oil, and 6 Scrap. These materials are commonly found at military installations like Protocol Camps. If you plan on upgrading weapons frequently, consider investing in the Deep Pockets survival skill to increase your capacity for carrying crafting supplies.

Upgrading a weapon to Pristine for the first time will earn you the 'Make do and mend' Achievement or Trophy.

*Atomfall* is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass.
