Some side quests in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2* are more enjoyable than others, but "In Vino Veritas" can be a bit of a head-scratcher. This quest involves multiple steps and even includes a side quest within it. Let's break it down for you to make it easier to navigate.
Speak with Casper and Havel
To kick off "In Vino Veritas," find Casper Rudolf near his drink cart on the east side of Kuttenberg City. Simply enter through the east gate and head straight to bump into him. Casper is eager to uncover the secret behind the monks' exquisite wine, but you'll need to follow a few steps first. During your conversation, make sure to exhaust all dialogue options to learn about Havel and a book he left with Adleta. This information will guide your approach to impressing Havel.
If you decide to retrieve the book from Adleta, head to the southeast corner of Kuttenberg's inner wall during the morning or afternoon. You'll find an open garden where Adleta often spends her time. Before you go, pick up five Marigolds. You can either catch her before her brother Hugo arrives or speak with Hugo to gain his permission to talk to her. Be kind to Adleta during your conversation and mention that you need the book for Casper. You can either pass a skill check to convince her to hand it over or offer the Marigolds as a gift in exchange for the book. Once you have it, read the book from your inventory.
Alternatively, you can skip the book and head straight to Havel, who owns an inn in Kuttenberg City. Ensure your drinking skills are up to par and wear an outfit that boosts your Charisma to at least 18. Engage Havel in conversation at the inn and select these dialogue options:
- Germany. Let’s do it.
- That’s a very fine gift.
- Steinberger.
- It’s missing ginger.
These choices will impress Havel, and he'll share the monastery's secret ingredient with you. Return to Casper with this information.
Find the Monastery’s Secret Ingredient
Next, journey to the vineyard north of Kuttenberg and speak with the recruiter to initiate the "Under the Straw Hat" side quest. Although you don't need to complete this side quest, starting it allows you to explore the vineyard without being seen as a trespasser. Once inside, find Jerome, who is often sitting on a bench near the main building.
Sneak into the main building, turn left, and head to the storeroom. Use your lockpicking skills to open the chests there and find the Sulphur Wicks, which are crucial for Casper. For some extra Groschen, visit the garden at the back of the main building and collect five seedlings before leaving.
If you choose to complete "Under the Straw Hat," you'll need to perform tasks such as removing plants around the vines and moving sacks. After completing enough work, report to Jerome to finish the side quest and earn some Groschen. Otherwise, return to Casper with the Sulphur Wicks and seedlings, if you have them.
