Astroweather: Your Stargazing Companion
Astroweather provides specialized weather forecasts ideal for astronomical observation. Leveraging data from 7timer.org, it incorporates astronomical weather predictions and displays sunrise/sunset and moonrise/moonset times.
The core meteorological forecasts are primarily based on the NOAA/NCEP Global Forecast System (GFS) numerical weather model.
Launched in July 2005 as a project of the National Astronomical Observatories of China, 7Timer! underwent significant updates in 2008 and 2011. Currently supported by the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, it was initially created to address the frustrating unpredictability of weather for amateur astronomers.
Astroweather offers additional features:
- Forecasts of astronomical events.
- Light pollution maps and satellite imagery.
- Rise and set times for stars, planets, moons, and satellites.
- An astronomy forum for community discussion.
