Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios unveil "Avatar: Seven Havens," a new animated series expanding the beloved Avatar universe. Created by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the masterminds behind the original "Avatar: The Last Airbender," this 26-episode, 2D animated series marks a significant addition to the franchise's 20th-anniversary celebration.
"Avatar: Seven Havens" introduces a young Earthbender, the next Avatar after Korra, navigating a world ravaged by a catastrophic event. This new Avatar is not seen as a savior, but rather a harbinger of destruction, hunted by both human and spirit foes. Forced to unravel her mysterious origins alongside her long-lost twin, she must protect the Seven Havens before they crumble.
In a joint statement, DiMartino and Konietzko expressed their excitement about continuing the Avatar saga, highlighting the new series' blend of fantasy, mystery, and captivating characters. The series will be structured into two 13-episode seasons (Book 1 and Book 2), with Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi serving as executive producers alongside the original creators. Casting details remain undisclosed.
This marks the first major television series from Avatar Studios, who are simultaneously developing a feature-length animated film centered on a grown-up Aang, slated for a theatrical release on January 30, 2026. The 20th anniversary festivities also include a range of new merchandise, including books, comics, concerts, toys, and a Roblox game.
