Bandai Namco has announced the cancellation of the global release of Blue Protocol, and the closure of its Japanese servers in 2025. This decision follows the game's underperformance and inability to meet player expectations. Let's delve into the details.
Blue Protocol: Global Release Cancelled and Japanese Servers Shutting Down
Player Compensation and Final Updates
Bandai Namco's announcement confirms the termination of Blue Protocol's Japanese service on January 18, 2025, effectively ending the planned global launch in partnership with Amazon Games. The company cited its inability to deliver a consistently satisfactory service as the primary reason.
In a formal statement, Bandai Namco expressed regret over the cancellation, stating they couldn't maintain a service meeting player expectations. Disappointment at halting global development with Amazon Games was also noted.
Until the game's closure, Bandai Namco will continue to release updates and new content. However, Rose Orb purchases and refunds will cease. As compensation, players will receive 5,000 Rose Orbs monthly (September 2024 – January 2025) plus 250 daily. Furthermore, the Season 9 pass and subsequent Season Passes will be free, with the final update (Chapter 7) launching December 18, 2024.
The game's June 2023 Japanese launch initially attracted significant attention, exceeding 200,000 concurrent players. However, server issues during launch and subsequent player dissatisfaction led to a decline in the player base.
Despite its promising start, Blue Protocol failed to sustain its player numbers and meet financial projections. Bandai Namco's March 31, 2024 financial report indicated the game's underperformance, contributing to the decision to end service.
