TouchArcade Rating:
Mobile premium game updates usually improve optimization or compatibility. However, Capcom's recent update for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces an online DRM system. This DRM verifies game and DLC ownership upon launch. Refusal results in game closure. While the check takes only seconds with an internet connection, it renders all three titles unplayable offline – a significant downgrade from their previous offline functionality.
Pre-update testing confirmed offline playability. This update necessitates online verification every time the games are launched. This unwelcome change negatively impacts the user experience and makes recommending Capcom's premium mobile ports more difficult.
While the games offer free trials, this mandatory online DRM is a concern for those who already purchased them. Hopefully, Capcom will revise their purchase verification method to be less intrusive, perhaps implementing it less frequently.
Resident Evil 7 biohazard is available on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Village are available on the App Store. My reviews of these titles can be found [here](), [here](), and [here]().
