Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, dreams of a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film alongside Keanu Reeves. Learn more about his exciting vision for a screen reunion!
Night City's Next Chapter?
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, promoting his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he shares the screen with Keanu Reeves again!), Idris Elba expressed his strong belief that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation would be incredible, especially with himself and Reeves reprising their roles. He stated that the pairing of their characters would be "Whoa."
Elba, who played Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty DLC, and Reeves, the iconic Johnny Silverhand, have already shared the screen in Sonic 3. This makes the prospect of a Cyberpunk live-action film even more appealing.
This isn't just wishful thinking. Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While updates have been scarce since the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk live-action adaptation is a strong possibility.
More Cyberpunk on the Horizon
Beyond a potential live-action film, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, a prequel manga, has launched in several languages, with more to come in 2025. The first chapter follows Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also planned for 2025, and a new animated series is in the works. CD Projekt Red is clearly committed to expanding the Cyberpunk franchise across various media.
