Conquering Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide
One of the initial hurdles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the battle against Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans. This guide details how to overcome this challenging encounter.
Phase 1: A One-on-One Duel
This phase unfolds in a spacious wasteland. Zhang Jiao utilizes sorcery, launching stones across the arena. His attacks vary based on your distance: close-range attacks involve four stones requiring swift evasion, while long-range assaults unleash eight stones in pairs, easily dodged by circling him. Maintain a safe distance when he summons a large volley to avoid significant damage.
While primarily a ranged combatant, Zhang Jiao employs close-range combos (parryable) and an area-of-effect (AOE) attack that repels you. A white glow signals his AOE charge; retreat to avoid damage. He also uses unblockable attacks (red aura), summoning numerous rocks or clones. The best strategy is to maintain distance until these attacks conclude. Equipping a sword maximizes damage output compared to spears or gauntlets.
Resource Management is crucial. Your healing opportunities are limited (likely four, depending on skill upgrades). Meat buns are located near the arena entrance; utilize these for healing during periods of retreat.
Phase 2: Aided Assault
Activating Musou Rage initiates Phase 2, bringing Yellow Turban reinforcements. Fortunately, your army joins the fray, providing respite. Use this opportunity to replenish health using the meat buns. Zhang Jiao summons tornadoes, so be mindful of the wind while eliminating his soldiers.
Zhang Jiao will attempt a Grand Tactic, demanding you defeat 300 soldiers within a short timeframe to avoid a devastating attack. He also unleashes lightning strikes; observe the ground for approaching rings and evade when they flash. Musou Mode, particularly basic Musou, is highly effective for quickly eliminating large numbers of soldiers during this phase.
Foiling Zhang Jiao’s Grand Tactic twice brings him back to the battlefield with Phase 1 tactics. With your army's support, eliminating his remaining health should be relatively straightforward, concluding Chapter 1.
Victory Assured
By following these strategies, you can successfully defeat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Remember to adapt to his changing tactics, manage your resources effectively, and utilize your army's support to secure victory.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
