This guide helps you befriend the enigmatic Dwarf in Stardew Valley. While not as straightforward as befriending other villagers, it's a rewarding experience adding a unique element to your game.
Updated January 8, 2024: This guide reflects recent Stardew Valley updates (1.5 and 1.6) impacting NPC friendships, including gift preferences and the Movie Theater's role.
Finding the Dwarf
Located in the mines, on the first floor, to the right of the entrance, you'll find a large boulder. Destroy it (using a copper pickaxe or a bomb) to reveal the Dwarf's shop.
Learning Dwarvish
The Dwarf doesn't speak common tongue. To communicate, you must donate all four Dwarf Scrolls to the museum. Gunther will then provide a Dwarvish translation guide. Return to the mines to finally understand him and access his shop.
Gifting Guide
Gifts are key to befriending the Dwarf. You can give up to two gifts weekly. Remember, his birthday (Summer 22nd) multiplies friendship points gained from gifts by eight!

Movie Theater Visits
Once unlocked, take the Dwarf to the Movie Theater. He loves all movies but has specific snack preferences. He loves Stardrop Sorbet and Rock Candy, and likes Cotton Candy, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jawbreaker, Salmon Burger, Sour Slimes, and Star Cookie. Other snacks are disliked.
By following these steps, you can successfully befriend this unique character and unlock his shop's offerings.
