Snow White, directed by Marc Webb known for The Amazing Spider-Man films, experienced a challenging opening weekend at the box office, securing one of the lowest domestic totals among Disney's live-action remakes to date. According to Comscore, the film earned $43 million domestically during its debut, which, despite being the second highest of 2025 so far behind only Captain America: Brave New World, fell short of the $45 million opening of 2019's live-action Dumbo and did not meet expectations.
For comparison, other Disney remakes like 2019's The Lion King, 2017's Beauty and the Beast, 2016's The Jungle Book, and 2023's The Little Mermaid all surpassed the $100 million mark in their domestic opening weekends.
Internationally, Snow White's performance was equally modest, pulling in $44.3 million over its opening weekend, resulting in a global total of $87.3 million, as per Comscore's estimates.
Snow White, a live-action adaptation of Disney's 1937 animated classic, features Rachel Zegler in the titular role and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. With a reported production budget exceeding $250 million, the film faces a steep challenge to break even, especially when factoring in marketing expenses. However, there's potential for a turnaround. Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to the Lion King remake, started with a weak $35.4 million domestic opening but ultimately grossed over $717 million worldwide. Disney is likely hoping Snow White will follow a similar path to become a sleeper hit, even as questions linger about the performance of Captain America: Brave New World, which has earned $400.8 million globally after six weekends.
IGN's review of Snow White awarded it a 7/10, noting, "Snow White is a live-action Disney remake that meaningfully adapts its original, rather than creating a lesser mimicry."
