Dune: Awakening, the highly anticipated multiplayer survival game inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic 1965 novel, is set to launch on May 20 without the need for a monthly subscription. In a recent update, developer Funcom provided detailed insights into the game's business model, system requirements, and post-launch plans.
No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription
Dune: Awakening will bypass the early access phase and launch directly into a full release on May 20. Funcom's latest blog post on Steam, dated March 21, emphasized the game's commitment to a subscription-free model. Unlike other MMOs such as Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online, Dune: Awakening will not require players to pay a monthly fee. Instead, the game will be supported through free updates, introducing new content, features, and enhancements to keep the experience fresh and engaging.
Funcom has a strong track record in managing live service games, with titles like Anarchy Online, which is approaching its 25th anniversary, and Conan Exiles, which continues to receive regular updates, DLCs, and expansions. This experience ensures that Dune: Awakening will receive long-term support post-launch.

In addition to the business model, Funcom announced that pre-orders for Dune: Awakening are now open. The game will be available in three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate, each offering unique in-game items. By pre-ordering any edition, players will receive the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, an intricately designed in-base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern that can be applied to weapons, vehicles, and armor.
