The Dungeon faction, also known as the Warlocks' faction, has long been a beloved element in the Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era series, seamlessly blending into its rich narrative tapestry. Our initial exploration of the Jadame continent introduced us to creatures inherently linked to the Dungeon faction, each possessing their own distinct domains. This allowed the developers to craft a faction that is deeply rooted in tradition while also introducing fresh and innovative concepts.

If we were to encapsulate the essence of the Dungeon faction across the entire series in just two words, "power" and "outcasts" would be fitting. Revisiting the world of Enroth provides an opportunity to redefine these formidable warlocks, drawing inspiration from the lore of Jadame, particularly the Alvaric Pact from Might and Magic VIII. This reimagining brings a fresh perspective to the Dungeon faction.
Creatures once viewed as mere monsters now form alliances with the red-skinned dark elves, who have historically been marginalized due to their pragmatic approach. Through diplomacy, trade, and strategic pacts, these once-isolated groups now grow stronger together, marking a significant evolution from their earlier depictions in the series.
Throughout the Heroes series, the Dungeon faction has been represented by skilled warlocks and commanding leaders, each game offering a unique portrayal:
- In Heroes I and Heroes II, the faction served under Lord Alamar and King Archibald, seeking power and rallying like-minded creatures to their cause.
- In Heroes III, the warlords of Nighon upheld the belief that strength justifies dominance, ruling from underground tunnels with ambitions to conquer Antagarich.
- In Heroes IV, chaotic sorcerers and thieves inhabited the swamps of Axeoth, rallying rogues to claim territory in the emerging world.
- In parts five through seven, the dark elves of Ashan allied with the Dragon-Goddess Malassa and the underworld, weaving a complex narrative of intrigue.
This evolution showcases the dynamic nature of the Dungeon faction, continually adapting and redefining its role within the expansive universe of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era.
