Exciting news for fans of ROME: Total War on Android—Feral Interactive has just rolled out the massive Imperium Update, bringing a host of gameplay tweaks, control improvements, and quality-of-life features to enhance your strategy gaming experience. If you've been playing this classic since its Android debut in 2018, get ready to explore these new additions. The same update will be hitting the standalone expansions Barbarian Invasion and Alexander next week.
What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?
The Imperium Update draws inspiration from Feral’s more recent mobile titles, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE, integrating some of their best features. Now, ROME: Total War introduces three new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection, which significantly enhance your command over units and make battles more precise. You can now effortlessly move your army, agents, or fleets by simply tapping and holding, eliminating the need for manual path dragging.
Positioning Mode allows you to fine-tune unit placements with ease by tapping and holding, while the Group Grid feature simplifies managing unit groups with a user-friendly, collapsible selection menu. In Melee Mode, ranged units can switch to close combat when the situation demands it, adding a layer of strategic depth.
One of the most notable changes is the introduction of Command Slowdown, which automatically slows the game when you're issuing complex orders, making it easier to manage intricate battle tactics. Additionally, for the first time, keyboard and mouse support has been added for Android (and iPad) players, enhancing the control experience.
The minimap in ROME: Total War has also been revamped to resemble the one found in MEDIEVAL II, featuring smoother zooming and navigation. A new reset button allows you to quickly revert to the default view, streamlining gameplay.
The update is now available for download on the Google Play Store for ROME: Total War on Android. Keep an eye out for the updates coming to Barbarian Invasion and Alexander next week, and don't miss out on these enhancements.
