FFXIV Pauses Home Demolition, Protecting Players

Final Fantasy XIV Suspends Housing Demolitions Due to California Wildfires

Square Enix has temporarily halted the automatic demolition of player housing in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers. The company will announce a resumption date once the situation is assessed.

The automatic demolition timer, typically set at 45 days, is a mechanism to free up housing plots for inactive players and Free Companies. Players can reset their timer by simply visiting their property. However, Square Enix regularly pauses this system during significant real-world events to accommodate players who may be unable to access the game. A previous pause, ending January 8th, was implemented following Hurricane Helene. This latest suspension began on January 9th, just one day after the previous moratorium ended.

This action follows a recent restart of the automatic demolition timers. While the company initially planned to continue with the automatic demolitions, the severity of the Los Angeles wildfires prompted this immediate change. No timeline has been provided for when the timers will be reactivated. Homeowners can rest assured that their timers will remain paused until further notice, and they can still reset their individual timers by logging in.

Final Fantasy XIV Halts Housing Demolitions Amidst LA Wildfires

  • Automatic housing demolitions are paused on Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers.
  • The decision is a direct response to the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires.
  • This pause follows a short period of active demolitions, restarting after a three-month moratorium.
  • Square Enix will provide updates regarding the resumption of the automatic demolition timers.

Square Enix has expressed its concern for those affected by the wildfires, acknowledging the wider impact of the disaster. The wildfires have caused disruptions beyond the game, including a postponement of the Critical Role Campaign 3 finale and the relocation of an NFL playoff game.

The start of 2025 has been eventful for Final Fantasy XIV players, with this housing demolition pause coinciding with the return of a free login campaign. The duration of this latest suspension remains uncertain.
