Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up to bring the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen, as announced at CES 2025. Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, made the exciting reveal: "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a film based on our immensely popular game, Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, audiences can anticipate spectacular space combat scenes.
Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2, a shooter reminiscent of Starship Troopers, has achieved phenomenal success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. The game's popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a familiar enemy faction from the original Helldivers.
Adding to the cinematic excitement, a Horizon Zero Dawn movie is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures—the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted adaptation. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse: "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn film, but we can assure fans: this world and its characters will receive an unprecedented cinematic presentation."
