Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to transition into the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) by taking on the role of Lobo in the upcoming 2026 film "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." Lobo, a character created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, debuted in Omega Men #3 in 1983. This alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, known for his superhuman strength and immortality, is the last survivor of the planet Czarnia, much like Superman's connection to Krypton.
Momoa has expressed his enthusiasm for the role, citing Lobo as his favorite comic book character. In an interview with ScreenRant, he teased his appearance in the film, expressing both excitement and nervousness about bringing the character to life. He hinted at the visual accuracy to the comic book version, describing Lobo as rough and gruff, and praised the design of the character's iconic bike.
While Lobo's role in "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" will be brief, Momoa is thrilled to be part of the project, which centers on Supergirl, played by Milly Alcock from "House of the Dragon." The film, set to release in June 2026, draws heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. It follows the story of an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, portrayed by Eve Ridley, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem, played by Matthias Schoenaerts.
The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother. "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" will be the second film in the new DCU, following James Gunn's "Superman," set to premiere in the summer, with the DCU's "Clayface" movie scheduled for September 2026.
From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl, marking the start of production for the film. This image, posted on Bluesky, didn't reveal much but signaled the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the DC Universe.
