Keanu Reeves offers the most encouraging update yet on Constantine 2, confirming a script is now in the works.
John Constantine, the occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was famously portrayed by Reeves in the 2005 film adaptation, which achieved cult classic status. For two decades, fans have clamored for a sequel, a desire Reeves has openly shared.
Now, Constantine 2 appears closer to reality than ever before, following a successful pitch meeting at DC Studios.
"We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’” Reeves revealed to Inverse. "So, we're going to try and write a script.”

While this news is highly promising, it's crucial to remember that DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran haven't officially greenlit the project. Constantine 2 isn't yet confirmed for the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran has publicly acknowledged its potential. The sequel remains tentatively poised on the brink.
However, Reeves hinted that, if produced, Constantine 2 will remain within the established universe of the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured, adding with a touch of humor: "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more.”
Reeves' statement follows comments made by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura in September. Di Bonaventura revealed to ComicBook that a Constantine 2 script existed, but he was hesitant to read it, fearing disappointment.
"You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough,” he stated. “I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
