League of Legends is bringing back Hextech Chests, responding directly to player feedback. Read on to learn more about this update and other changes coming to LoL.
League of Legends Reverses Course on Unpopular Changes
The Return of Hextech Chests
Following player feedback, League of Legends (LoL) is reinstating Hextech Chests. A developer update, posted on Riot Games' website February 27, 2025, and accompanied by a YouTube video, detailed upcoming changes.Riot Games acknowledged recent unpopular updates, stating, "We’ve made changes that didn’t resonate with everyone. Your feedback is clear: adjustments are needed." The return of Hextech Chests was a key request. Riot explained, "Hextech Chests weren't just about rewards; they were a key part of the rewarding League experience. We underestimated their importance."
Starting with patch 25.05, Hextech Chests are back! Players can earn up to 10 chests and keys per act: 8 from the free pass and 2 through the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed & Further Fan-Driven Adjustments
The Exalted Mordekaiser skin, and the entire Exalted skin line, has been delayed. Riot aims to "better deliver on its core fantasy." This means the planned release of an Exalted skin every act this year is postponed.
Responding to further player feedback, LoL will replace a non-Prestige skin with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about a shortage of Mythic Essence in the paid pass and the number of champions per seasonal theme.
To improve champion accessibility, the Blue Essence cost for all champions will be reduced by 50% in patch 25.05.
Clash, previously slated for less frequent events, will return to a monthly schedule. March will feature ARURF Clash, followed by regular Summoner's Rift Clash in April.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Return
Popular features, Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium, are making a comeback this year. Your Shop is scheduled for patch 25.06, and the Emporium for 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their ongoing commitment to player feedback, stating, "Improving League is a continuous process. These updates are a significant step, and we’ll continue monitoring, engaging with you, and making adjustments." This response demonstrates Riot Games' dedication to incorporating player feedback to create a more satisfying game experience. League of Legends remains free-to-play on PC.
