Marvel Brings Back Baddie From 2008's Iron Man for MCU Vision Quest Series

Author : George Feb 24,2025

Marvel's upcoming Vision Quest series is reportedly resurrecting a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man.

Deadline reports that Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the Afghan terrorist leader who held Tony Stark captive in the opening scenes of the 2008 film. Al-Wazar's last appearance was in that initial 30-minute segment, but, similar to Samuel Sterns' return in Captain America: Brave New World, he's making a comeback. The Vision Quest series, starring Paul Bettany as White Vision following the events of WandaVision, currently lacks a release date.

While initially portrayed as the head of a generic terrorist cell, al-Wazar's backstory was significantly enriched in Phase 4. The group was subtly revealed to be connected to the Ten Rings, a connection further expanded upon in 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This suggests a retroactive inclusion of al-Wazar as a Ten Rings commander. Given the open-ended nature of Shang-Chi, a connection to Vision Quest through this character seems plausible.

However, Vision Quest might also explore less-remembered MCU elements in a similar vein to Deadpool & Wolverine's approach to the discarded Fox Marvel universe.

The series will also reportedly feature the return of James Spader as Ultron, his first appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron. Details about the show remain scarce.
