Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase, the developer, has confirmed it won't be released on the original Nintendo Switch due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?
Recently, at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. He revealed that a Switch 2 release is a strong possibility. Wu stated, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. If we can ensure great performance on the Switch 2, we're definitely open to it. The original Switch couldn't deliver the gameplay experience we aimed for; if the Switch 2 achieves that, we'll consider it."
Last month, Nintendo officially unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2. While specifics are still limited, it's expected to be a more powerful console with enhanced capabilities. Interestingly, it seems the console will incorporate mouse-like controls, potentially making shooters like Marvel Rivals feel more PC-like. The exact implementation remains to be seen.
The Nintendo Switch 2 lacks a confirmed release date, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received positive reviews. Our 8/10 review praised the game, stating it "might closely follow established hero shooters, but it's well-positioned to become the genre's top contender." The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st.
