Marvel Rivals Reveals How Often Fans Can Expect New Heroes

Marvel Rivals: An Ambitious Hero Release Schedule

Marvel Rivals, the hit third-person hero shooter launched in December 2024, boasts an impressive roster of 33 playable heroes. But the game's developers, NetEase, have set an even more ambitious goal: adding a new hero approximately every 45 days.

This aggressive release schedule, aiming for eight new heroes annually, significantly surpasses competitors like Overwatch 2. The first season, currently underway, already features the Fantastic Four (with Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman released, and The Thing and Human Torch slated for the second half). Two new New York City maps have also been added.

Game Director Guangyun Chen confirmed this rapid release cadence in an interview with Metro, explaining a new hero will launch every 45 days, coinciding with the halfway point of each three-month season.

The ambitious nature of this plan has sparked discussion among fans. While NetEase has access to a vast library of Marvel characters, including lesser-known heroes, concerns remain about the development time needed for thorough playtesting and balancing. With 37 heroes and approximately 100 abilities to consider, ensuring each new addition seamlessly integrates into the existing gameplay presents a significant challenge. The sustainability of this pace, without a substantial backlog of pre-developed heroes, is also questioned.

Looking ahead, Marvel Rivals players can anticipate the arrival of the remaining Fantastic Four members soon. Further content, including additional maps or in-game events, is also possible during the second half of Season 1. Players are encouraged to follow Marvel Rivals' social media channels for updates.
