Hashino, when discussing future projects, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially inspired by the Basara series.
Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel. However, Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project. He revealed that the game was originally conceived as the third major JRPG series for Atlus, following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become a flagship title for the company.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already working on their next game. An anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio, however, is under consideration. The game itself has been a significant success for Atlus, achieving the company's best-ever concurrent player count on launch, exceeding 85,961 players. This surpasses the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
