Netflix has been making significant strides recently with its content lineup. The streaming platform unveiled its roster of upcoming shows and games for the year, sparking excitement—but fans also noticed some glaring omissions. For example, Netflix Games quietly dropped Don't Starve Together, and it's not the only casualty.
Six Titles Unexpectedly Cut from Netflix Games
In a surprising shift, Netflix has axed six previously announced mobile games. Titles like Don't Starve Together, Tales of the Shire, Compass Point: West, Lab Rat, Rotwood, and Thirsty Suitors won't be joining the platform's gaming catalog after all.
This move reflects Netflix's ongoing refinement of its gaming portfolio. The company has a history of canceling games post-announcement—Crashlands 2 met a similar fate last year despite reaching beta testing in select markets.
These changes signal Netflix's broader strategic pivot toward narrative-driven experiences and adaptations of its popular shows. The growing Netflix Stories category exemplifies this direction, with additions like Ginny & Georgia and Sweet Magnolias coming soon.
What Happens to Promised Games Like Don't Starve Together?
Fortunately, most affected games are finding homes elsewhere. Don't Starve Together—previously positioned as Netflix's first mobile adaptation of the co-op survival phenomenon—will still launch via Playdigious instead.
Originally announced alongside two other Klei Entertainment titles in June 2024, Netflix has since dropped Lab Rat and Rotwood from its plans. Rotwood remains available through Steam Early Access.
Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game continues development, though its release shifted from fall 2024 to early 2025. The disappearance of Netflix branding from its official channels confirms the platform's withdrawal.
The cancellation of Compass Point: West proves particularly shocking—as Netflix's own Next Games developed this title, once considered a flagship offering.
Thirsty Suitors, Outerloop Games' stylish narrative RPG published by Annapurna Interactive, will now skip mobile entirely despite Netflix's initial involvement.
While these titles won't join Netflix's gaming lineup, you can explore their current offerings on Google Play. For more Netflix updates, check out their upcoming story expansions featuring Ginny & Georgia and Sweet Magnolias.
