Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, dispelling earlier rumors. This confirmation came through the newly released Nintendo Today! app, with both the App Store and Google Play listings featuring an image that clearly showcases the "C" on the button.
The new button was first revealed earlier this year alongside the Switch 2, but initial images of the Joy-Con did not display any letter on the button. Despite this, prior reports had speculated it would be called the “C” button, which has now been confirmed.

Speculation abounds regarding the function of this new button. Some believe it could be used for wirelessly casting the Switch 2 to a TV or for screen sharing. Others speculate it might change the Joy-Con's functionality, such as switching to a mouse mode. There's also talk that it might enhance group or voice chat capabilities.
Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about the C button and other features. In the meantime, here's what we know for certain about the Nintendo Switch 2:
- Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for release in 2025, likely not before June, based on hands-on event schedules.
- The console is larger than the original Switch, featuring bigger Joy-Con that can potentially be used as a mouse.
- It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and another at the bottom, compared to just one on the original Nintendo Switch.
- The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as exclusive Switch 2 titles. However, some older games might not be fully compatible.
- A new Mario Kart game is confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2.
