Gamers were left reeling last week when the eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This delay was triggered by import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which caused turmoil in financial markets and affected plans across the border. Nintendo Canada has also announced delays in pre-orders, dashing hopes of securing a console through cross-border purchases.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, to align with the yet-to-be-determined timing of pre-orders in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.
"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged."

This statement echoes the one given to IGN by Nintendo of America on April 4, although the Canadian version omits any specific mention of tariffs.
Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, as Nintendo assesses the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. An update on timing will be provided later. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged.
Despite the original pre-order launch date looming tomorrow, there's still no clear timeline on when eager fans can start their pre-order frenzy, leaving many in limbo and worried about potential price hikes beyond the initially announced $449.99.
Meanwhile, in the UK, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already gone live today. Smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths have seen quick sell-outs, with scalpers jumping onto eBay to resell pre-orders at inflated prices of £500 ($639) or more, well above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
