Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Delivery Not Guaranteed Due to High Demand

Author : Claire May 24,2025

Nintendo has issued a crucial update to U.S. fans eagerly awaiting the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, warning that the company might not be able to guarantee delivery by the console's launch date on June 5. This follows a similar announcement made to Japanese customers about potential pre-order shortages.

On its official website, Nintendo has updated those who registered their interest in purchasing a Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store. The company stated that due to high demand, it cannot assure delivery by the release date. Consequently, invitation emails to purchase the console may be sent out after the Switch 2's launch. However, Nintendo assures customers that they will confirm the shipping date upon purchase.

Nintendo expressed gratitude to fans for their interest, stating, “Thank you to those of you who have already registered your interest in purchasing from My Nintendo Store. We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase.”

To increase the chances of obtaining a Switch 2 at launch, Nintendo suggests pre-ordering through third-party retailers, although the console has already sold out at many outlets following the opening of pre-orders. The company specifically pointed to GameStop as an option, though the Switch 2 is currently listed as sold out there as well. For those willing to wait, no further action is needed after registering interest with My Nintendo Store.

The challenges faced by fans trying to pre-order the Switch 2 on April 24, coupled with this recent warning, indicate that securing a Nintendo Switch 2 at launch will be difficult. Earlier in the week, Nintendo issued a similar warning to its customers in Japan, with president Shuntaro Furukawa revealing that 2.2 million people had applied for a pre-order from the My Nintendo Store, far exceeding the company's expectations and available stock.

According to Nintendo’s FAQ, the first batch of invitation emails for the U.S. My Nintendo Store will start being sent out on May 8, 2025, with additional batches following periodically until the purchase is open to everyone. These initial invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible registrants meeting specific priority criteria. Those invited will have 72 hours to complete their purchase from the time the email is sent.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitation priority requirements:

  • You must have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • You must have had a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for at least 12 months.
  • You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours of total gameplay.

Last week, Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 pre-orders would begin in the U.S. on April 24, 2025, with the console's price set at $449.99 and the launch date remaining June 5. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will stay at $499.99, with no changes to the pricing of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong: Bananza ($69.99) at launch. However, the price of Switch 2 accessories has been raised due to ongoing tariff issues.

Nintendo had initially planned to open pre-orders on April 9 but delayed them to assess the impact of tariffs and market conditions. For those looking to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2, GameCube controllers, or other accessories and games, staying updated with Nintendo's pre-order guide is recommended. Additionally, resources are available to help increase the chances of securing a new Nintendo Switch 2 console on launch day.
