Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG, Avowed, will run at up to 60 frames per second on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in an interview with MinnMax. While she didn't elaborate on specifics, the Xbox Series S version will remain capped at 30fps, as previously announced.
Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes—a common feature allowing players to prioritize either frame rate or visual fidelity—remains unclear. It's possible the 60fps target is the default setting on the Series X.
Avowed launches on February 13th for those who purchase the premium edition ($89.99). The standard edition ($69.99) will be available five days later, on February 18th. This staggered release strategy, while employed by some publishers, is already being abandoned by others, such as Ubisoft.
Set within the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and agency. Players will unravel a narrative filled with war, mystery, and intrigue, forging alliances and rivalries as they journey through the land.
IGN's recent final preview lauded the game's nuanced conversations, player freedom, and overall engaging experience, concluding that "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
