Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Switch and PS4 in Europe. The reason cited is technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization. This news has left many fans frustrated.
Omori's European Physical Release Cancelled
A String of Postponements
Meridiem Games' Twitter (X) announcement revealed the cancellation, offering little further detail beyond the localization challenges. A fan inquiry regarding specific developer issues received a non-committal response.
The game's European physical release was initially slated for March 2023, then pushed back to December 2023, and again to March 2024. Pre-orders on Amazon were subsequently delayed to January 2025, before the final cancellation.
This outcome is particularly disappointing for European fans, as it prevented the official release of the game in Spanish and other local languages. While a US import remains an option, the cancellation dashes hopes for a readily available physical copy within Europe.
Omori, an RPG centered on Sunny, a young boy coping with trauma, blends real-world and dream-world narratives. Released on PC in December 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was later removed due to an inappropriate T-shirt design previously sold by OMOCAT.
