Overwatch 2's Triumphant Return to China: A Celebration of Rewards and Mythology
Overwatch 2 is making a grand comeback to China on February 19th, bringing with it a wealth of rewards and exciting in-game events. Chinese players will have the opportunity to catch up on missed content, including Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 through 9, and participate in a multi-week celebratory event.
The game's relaunch follows a successful technical test (January 8th-15th) that allowed players to experience content unavailable since the game's previous absence from the Chinese market. This included "Overwatch: Classic" and all six heroes released since the server closure in Season 2.
Game director Aaron Keller's announcement on Xiaohongshu (RedNote) detailed the upcoming festivities. A multi-week celebration will feature popular events and rewards previously inaccessible to Chinese players. Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 and 2 will be available pre-launch, with rewards from Seasons 3-9 obtainable through in-game events post-launch.
A Mythological Season 15?
Keller also hinted at Season 15's theme: skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology. While specifics remain scarce, the possibility of entirely new skins, China-exclusive cosmetics, or even a broader Chinese mythology-themed season, similar to Season 14's Norse mythology focus, is highly anticipated. The full reveal is expected in early February, just ahead of Season 15's February 18th launch.
In the meantime, players globally can participate in "Min 1, Max 3," a 6v6 test running from January 21st to February 4th, featuring the classic 2-2-2 team composition. Lunar New Year and "Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic" events are also scheduled before Season 15. While Chinese players missed these events previously, they can eagerly anticipate their own unique celebrations with the game's return.
