PlayStation Stars Program Ends After 3 Years

Author : Zoe May 24,2025

Sony has announced the termination of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, less than three years following its debut. As of today, the program is closed to new members, and those who cancel their membership will find their reward points permanently deleted, with no chance of rejoining. Current members can continue earning points until July 23, 2025, and have until November 3, 2026, to redeem any remaining balance.

PlayDespite the program's closure, Sony assures that PlayStation Stars' Digital Collectibles, including the beloved 3D digital model of a Jim Ryan bobblehead, will remain accessible for the foreseeable future.

Grace Chen, PlayStation's vice president of network advertising, loyalty, and licensed merchandise, commented on the PlayStation blog, stating, "Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings."

Sony has not disclosed any plans for a replacement scheme or detailed the specific findings from running PlayStation Stars. The program, which began in July 2022, aimed to reward PS5 owners with points that could be converted into real cash value based on purchases made in the PlayStation Store, as well as for engaging in various tasks such as completing surveys or exploring new games and system features.

PlayStation Stars was designed as a competitor to Microsoft's Xbox Rewards program. Over time, both loyalty schemes have undergone modifications that reduced their profitability. PlayStation Stars faced a service interruption for a month last summer, and in October, Sony introduced changes such as shortening the points expiration period from 24 to 12 months and excluding PlayStation Plus membership from points-eligible purchases. Now, the entire program is being phased out.
