Next Pokemon Presents Event May Be Disappointing for Switch 2

Pokemon Presents on February 27th: No Switch 2 Announcements Expected

Don't expect any reveals of Switch 2 Pokemon titles during the upcoming Pokemon Presents on February 27th. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 unveiling, new Pokemon games will reportedly remain exclusive to the original Switch console for the time being. The focus of the February 27th presentation will likely be on Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Nintendo's next-generation console, the Switch 2 (unofficially named), is confirmed but details remain scarce beyond backward compatibility with the original Switch, Nintendo account carryover, and a planned reveal within this fiscal year. Current information stems primarily from leaks, painting a picture of a more powerful, larger iteration of the original Switch.

While future Pokemon titles are undoubtedly destined for the Switch 2, insider reports indicate the February 27th Pokemon Presents will showcase games developed for the original Switch, leveraging its backward compatibility on the new hardware.

No Switch 2 Pokemon News Expected

The Pokemon Presents will likely feature updates on existing live-service titles like Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Live. Significant attention is anticipated for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch this year. While a teaser showcased Lumiose City, returning Pokemon, and Mega Evolutions, details remain limited. Rumors also suggest another mainline Pokemon game is in the works for this year.

Speculation points towards potential Pokemon Black and White remakes or a new Let's Go installment, both allegedly destined for the original Switch. This suggests the first Switch 2-exclusive mainline Pokemon games will likely be Generation 10 titles.

This aligns with the franchise's history of prioritizing consoles with larger user bases. Recall the release of Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 on the original DS, rather than the 3DS. History may be repeating itself. However, until official confirmation, fans must await the February 27th Pokemon Presents for definitive answers.
