Pokémon TCG Pocket butters up players with free trade tokens as they work on improving feature

Author : Aurora Feb 27,2025

Pokémon TCG Pocket's trading feature, while highly anticipated, has had a less-than-stellar launch. Player feedback has led developers to announce a rework of the trading system.

As a temporary measure, all players will receive 1,000 Trade Tokens via the in-game Gifts menu. Trade Tokens are a crucial currency for card trading within the app. This giveaway aims to alleviate frustrations while the trading system undergoes its overhaul.

The original trading system faced significant criticism, particularly regarding restrictions on trading certain card rarities and the mandatory use of Trade Tokens. These limitations were cited as major drawbacks by many players.

Reworking the Trading System

The developers' decision to implement a trading system with restrictions, instead of opting for either completely open trading or no trading at all, proved controversial. While concerns about bot exploitation are valid, the existing limitations likely presented only minor obstacles to determined players seeking to circumvent them.

The upcoming rework is crucial for addressing these concerns. A well-implemented digital trading system could significantly enhance Pokémon TCG Pocket's appeal as a viable alternative to the physical card game.
