Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

The Pokémon Company has confirmed it currently has no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit. Let's delve into the reasons behind this decision and explore the game's future in the competitive scene.

Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Competitive Scene (Yet)

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

According to Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, Pokémon TCG Pocket's inclusion in the competitive circuit isn't on the immediate horizon. While Brown stated in a February 25, 2025 interview with VGC that they constantly evaluate potential additions to the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't currently under consideration. He playfully mentioned Pokémon Sleep as another example, referencing a past April Fool's joke about a Pokémon Sleep championship, but emphasized that there are currently no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket.

Why the Wait? Early Stages and Balancing

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

While no official reasons have been given, several factors likely contribute to this decision. Pokémon TCG Pocket is still relatively new, having launched only four months prior in October 2024, with just two sets released since. Although the app includes competitive features, balancing issues persist, a common concern among players. Furthermore, Pokémon TCG Pocket is a simplified version of the original card game, designed for a broader, more casual audience, making a competitive focus less central to its design philosophy.

The Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains robust, featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all culminating at the Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, in August 2025.

Potential for New Information at Pokémon Presents

The upcoming Pokémon Presents could unveil new information, including a potential new set for Pokémon TCG Pocket. The previous set, Space Time Smackdown, launched on January 30, 2025, and anticipation is high for the next reveal. While the Pokémon Company hasn't disclosed specific announcements, speculation runs high within the fanbase. Additionally, updates on Pokémon Legends: Z-A (previously announced for a 2025 release) and recently announced Mega Evolutions are also highly anticipated. Pokémon Presents will provide valuable insight into the future of the franchise and its various games.

The Pokémon Day 2025 Pokémon Presents livestream begins February 27, 2025, at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET on YouTube and Twitch. Stay tuned for updates!
