Ratatan, the highly anticipated spiritual successor to Patapon, has unveiled its official gameplay trailer, offering a captivating glimpse into its rhythm-based combat and cooperative action. This article delves into the trailer's highlights and details the upcoming closed beta test.

Gameplay Trailer Showcases Rhythm-Based Combat and Boss Battles

The recently released trailer showcases intense battles, including a thrilling encounter with a colossal boss crab. The footage emphasizes Ratatan's unique blend of rhythm game mechanics and side-scrolling action, a hallmark of the Patapon series. A key feature highlighted is the online co-op mode, allowing up to four players to engage in massive, 100-character melees.

Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani and featuring music by the original Patapon composer Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan's Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, successfully surpassed its console launch stretch goal, securing its release on multiple platforms.

Closed Beta Commences February 27, 2025

Ratatan Gameplay Trailer Reveals 4 Person Online Co-Op

Ratatan's closed beta test is scheduled to begin on February 27, 2025. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared exciting updates, revealing over 100,000 Steam wishlists and positive reception for the original soundtrack demo. While the game won't be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is prioritizing the closed beta and plans to deliver an enhanced demo for the June Steam Next Fest.

Sakajiri outlined the beta's scope, confirming initial access to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 to be added during the approximately month-long testing period. Beta key distribution details will be announced on Discord and X (formerly Twitter).

Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A precise release date remains unannounced.
